Santa Engrácia National Pantheon

Place of national remembrance.

The church of Santa Engrácia became the home of the National Pantheon in 1916, and is famous for its reconstruction that has spanned more than two and a half centuries. The church has even given its name to a current expression synonymous with “work that goes on forever” (Obras de Santa Engrácia").
The building dedicated to the memory of important national figures houses the tombs of former presidents of the Republic Teófilo Braga, Sidónio Pais and Óscar Carmona, writers João de Deus, Almeida Garrett and Guerra Junqueiro and the legendary Fado singer Amália Rodrigues.
